The skin is a “primary means of communicating with others, of establishing signifying relations; it is, moreover, an “inscribing surface” for the marks left by those others.”
-Didier Anzieu, The Skin Ego.
The skin is a visual autobiography, constantly evolving as we age. It is what we see of another, and we can read a considerable amount from it. My interest is in how the skin functions and the processes it performs.
Through the use of video and photography I document both the existence of the process, and the visuals of the resulting function. My aim is to isolate the skin from the body, resulting in the skin being the focus of the viewer as they are immediately aware of the existence and functionality of the skin.
