Rebecca Gibbs
Reinventing, recycling and reconsidering the everyday mundane. Looking at mass manufactured items we commonly come across in our daily lives, my aim is to alter how we perceive them. I use synthetic, easily accessible materials and alter their intentions, losing their sense of purpose and instead creating an illusion of something organic. My intention is to redirect how we regularly see man made plastics and fabrics, littering the floors, piled high on shop rails, and to contradict this with purer forms and structures. Recycled carrier bags and clothes are my core medium, produced in high quantities and often discarded once their purpose has been fulfilled.
The environmental effects left from these accumulated objects is reinforced by the natural forms I create, much like a disease, infecting and growing, a reflection of the impact these materials have.
